Recently, a commercial vehicle manufacturing enterprise has broken through the bottleneck of the processing technology for the door panels of truck cabs. By integrating three-dimensional laser scanning and CNC cutting technology, it has achieved a contour accuracy of the door panels reaching ±0.2mm, and the processing efficiency has been increased by three times. This technology has been applied to a number of lightweight vehicle models, helping the enterprise to seize the high-end logistics vehicle market. "The traditional stamping process is difficult to meet the design requirements of complex curved surfaces," the technical director introduced. The new solution adopts the strategy of "reverse modeling + layered cutting": First, a handheld scanner is used to obtain the point cloud data of the door panels, and a digital twin model is constructed; then, a five-axis CNC machine tool is used for Z-axis layered milling, and a vacuum adsorption tooling is used to ensure the flatness. "This is equivalent to a 'tailor-made' processing solution for the door panels." In order to improve the material utilization rate, the team has developed an intelligent nesting algorithm. The system can automatically calculate the cutting path according to the order requirements, increasing the utilization rate of a single steel plate from 68% to 85%. "The comprehensive cost has decreased by 12%," the production supervisor said. The new process also supports small-batch customized production, and the delivery cycle has been shortened to 7 days. A logistics company has reported that when the electric truck with the new door panels is driving in rainy days, the door sealability has been improved by 40%, and the noise has been reduced by 6dB. "Especially the assembly accuracy of the special-shaped window frames, the customers are very satisfied," the quality director revealed. The first-pass rate of the product has reached 99.2%. The enterprise has established a complete processing database for door panels, covering the process parameters of different vehicle models. The R&D team has disclosed that it is developing an online detection system based on machine vision, which can achieve real-time early warning of cutting defects in the future. "This will promote the transformation of the CNC cutting of truck cab door panels towards an unmanned workshop." With the maturity of this technology, the manufacturing of commercial vehicle cabs in China is expected to break through the dual constraints of efficiency and cost, injecting new impetus into the development of intelligent logistics equipment.
