Recently, an agricultural machinery manufacturing enterprise has overcome the technical difficulties in the processing of tractor engine cylinder blocks. Through the combination of a multi-axis linkage CNC machining center and special cutting tools, it has achieved high-precision processing of complex structures such as the water channels and crankshaft holes of the cylinder blocks. This technology has increased the sealing performance of the cylinder blocks by 30% and has been applied to 200-horsepower heavy-duty tractors. "The core challenge of CNC machining of tractor engine cylinder blocks lies in the control of material uniformity," the technical director introduced. Traditional cast cylinder blocks have defects such as shrinkage holes and inclusions. The new solution uses forged steel blanks combined with numerical control milling. By optimizing the tool path through the helical interpolation algorithm, the surface roughness can reach Ra3.2μm. "Especially, the control of the waviness of the inner wall of the water channel is crucial for the heat dissipation efficiency." In order to improve the processing efficiency, the team has developed a modular fixture system. Through the quick die change device, the co-line production of cylinder blocks of different specifications has been realized. "The model change time has been reduced from 2 hours to 15 minutes," the project leader said. With the positioning technology of the vacuum chuck, the clamping accuracy reaches 0.02mm, effectively avoiding vibration and deformation. An agricultural machinery cooperative has reported that when the tractor with the new cylinder block is used for deep plowing operations, the fuel consumption is reduced by 8%, and the engine noise is decreased by 6dB. "The most obvious thing is that the power output is more stable," the maintenance supervisor pointed out. The service life of the cylinder block has exceeded 12,000 hours, which is 50% longer than that of traditional components. The enterprise has established a complete CNC machining parameter database, covering the full range of cylinder blocks from 50 horsepower to 300 horsepower. The technical team revealed that they are developing a machining parameter optimization system based on machine learning, which is expected to reduce the rejection rate to less than 0.5%. "This will promote the intelligent transformation of CNC machining of tractor engine cylinder blocks." With the industrial application of this technology, the self-sufficiency rate of core components of high-end agricultural machinery in China is expected to exceed 75%, providing equipment support for the development of smart agriculture.
